Committed to quality at JANS – Didier Lejeune and his eye for detail

When it comes to JANS’ commitment to quality and high standards, one name stands out: Didier Lejeune, a key member of the JANS team for the past 13 years.
“I couldn’t imagine the team without Didier,” says Managing Director Steve Jans. “After so many years of working together, we’ve built a deep level of trust – something we can truly build on, in every sense of the word.”

Bags of experience

Lejeune came to JANS in August 2012. By this time, the trained systems engineer already had considerable experience at the helm of the heating department of a major construction company – an area he then headed up at JANS for a significant amount of time. But the move to Eschweiler brought with it a number of new tasks and challenges for the Belgian. When company founder Claude Jans asked whether he would like to take on a role with JANS immobilière, Lejeune didn’t have to think for long.

“It’s obviously a great feeling to be trusted like that,” says Lejeune, who commutes to Luxembourg from his home in Burg-Reuland, Belgium. Wasting no time, he enrolled in evening classes and earned his qualification as a property specialist – all while working full-time. “It’s important to keep your skills up to date through regular training,” he explains. “And having a solid grasp of the legal intricacies of real estate is essential, too.”

Trust and control

As quality coordinator, having in-depth knowledge of all the different processes right through to the final approval of the property is hugely important. “On the day we hand over the keys to the customer, everything has to be finished and absolutely perfect, with no outstanding work,” explains the 54-year-old. This is where Lejeune comes into play. A couple of weeks before work on the building site is completed, he checks whether the schedule and the internal quality standards have been met, whether any reworking is necessary and which trades might have to pick up the pace to finish the project on time.

“Here at JANS we are always trying to improve,” says Lejeune. “If you are on site every day, you might not spot an issue. It’s important to have a second set of eyes look over everything, as this prevents mistakes from happening.” The property expert runs the rule over every single detail as the final handover edges ever closer: Is the door the right colour? Do the windows close properly? Do all the light switches and electric blinds work correctly? Have the walls and ceilings been properly finished?

Lejeune keeps a log of all his observations and coordinates any reworking necessary with the lead technician. This allows JANS to ensure that every single minor snag is taken care of before handing over the keys and that we can deliver the perfection and quality that our customers know and expect of us.

A true all-rounder – both at work and at home

Lejeune values the diversity of his job, whether it’s on site or in the office, or working with customers or liaising with colleagues. The Belgian, who has two children, is not only skilled when it comes to property, he also possesses considerable linguistic talent. Besides his mother tongue, the dialect of the Eifel region, he also speaks Luxembourgish, German, French, English and Dutch. “My parents put a lot of work in to ensure that we children grew up surrounded by lots of different languages,” Lejeune adds.

Besides learning languages, Lejeune is also often found riding around on his quad bike, taking care of home and garden. He also volunteers as a presenter at the weekends at the local radio station.

Thanks to his language skills, all-round talent and wealth of experience, not to mention his eye for detail, Lejeune is a key part of making our vision here at JANS a reality: delivering the highest standards of quality while ensuring that our work gets that little bit better, every single day.
